Friday Refresh

Put your self-care first this fall. Drop in for once-monthly 50-minute sessions of contemplative practice (e.g., gentle movement, guided meditation, resourcing and community building) that will leave you feeling grounded, soothed, and refreshed. “Friday Refresh” is a class for soothing and healing the nervous system of therapists whose main task often is healing others. It offers therapists an opportunity for experiential learning of techniques they may wish to bring back to their practice in order to resource clients.

This group is designed specifically for mental health clinicians. The practice aims to decrease vicarious traumatization and increase resilience, satisfaction, and joy in our work.

The format is neither a consultation group, nor a traditional yoga class. Each session focuses on a theme and helps participants experience resources on a primarily somatic and emotional level. Much of the time is spent in mindful reflection, practicing guided breath work, meditation or movement.

Both instructors are trained and practice as psychotherapists who incorporate mind-body approaches with more traditional theoretical orientations. Sharon is a psychologist and certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy. Carryn is a social worker and registered yoga teacher.

Meeting Time: Fridays 12:00noon – 12:50 p.m. (please arrive between 11:50 and 12:00 to have a few minutes to settle into the room before we begin promptly at 12:00noon). Meeting Place: We are at 214 S. Main St. on the second floor. The suite number is 207. Once you arrive at the building, take the elevator up to the second floor. Walk all the way down the hallway and take a left at the very end of the hall.
Suggested Materials: We are meeting in a yoga studio without furniture. Yoga mats, blocks, and bolsters are provided. Dress comfortably for stretching and gentle movement.

Enrollment limited to 8 participants.

Cost: $25 per class, payable by check to Therapist Refresh at 214 S. Main St., Ste. 204-5, Ann Arbor, MI 48104. Payment plan or sliding scale options may be available by contacting instructors.
